It is that time of year again for the Prairie Baseball Academy. After an incredible CCBC regular season that saw the team go 21-3, the boys will compete in the 2017 version of the Championships in Kelowna this weekend. PBA will kick off the tournament at 10:00am (PST) today against the UofC Dinos and a second game against VIBI at 4:00pm.
Due to weather in BC the University of Fraser Valley was unable to drive to Lethbridge last weekend so the boys got some much needed time to rest up before the always grinding CCBC Tournament. This year’s team was very consistent the entire year in almost all aspects of the game. The team batting average in CCBC play was .361 and not one position player hit under .300. Two incredible accomplishments for coach Hubka’s team. Pitching, the team staff had a 4.00 ERA. The four starters combined for a 3.30 ERA and a 19-2 record in 2017.
As always the expectation for coach Hubka’s squad will be to win the tournament. Nine months a year this team works their tails off to improve and to peak in May. It all culminates in five or six ball games this weekend and it usually makes for some exciting baseball. The last six years that hard work has paid off and PBA has hoisted the trophy on Sunday. It hasn’t always been easy, in those six years. In 2014 PBA had to win 3 straight games on Sunday to take the title, and who could forget last years 9th inning walk off win where the team was down to its final out! Each and every year it gets more difficult, and the team has prepared themselves all year for what will no doubt be a memorable weekend.
