The Prairie Baseball Academy wrapped up their 25th opening day yesterday under beautiful blue skies at Lloyd Nolan Yard. Fifty-six ball players from across Canada showed up for the annual opening day workout. Like always, Coach Hubka and his staff had Lloyd Nolan Yard in pristine condition for the first day. Players and family members also got a first hand glimpse of the many upgrades PBA has integrated over the last six months. All of our student-athletes will get Tuesday and Wednesday off of baseball to focus on the start of school, with the first team practice set for Thursday.
Time sure flies by when your having fun! Who can believe that PBA has now been around for a quarter century! The 25th group of eager young ball players showed up at Lloyd Nolan Yard to continue their academic and athletic careers yesterday. Coach Hubka was very pleased with the opening day turnout, and with a few more players expected to arrive this week, our fall final number should be right around 60. It took most of the day, but the coaching staff put the team through a rigorous workout including: 60’s, pregame defense, infield/outfield velocity, bullpens and on-field batting practice. It looks to be a young, athletic group of players, and there will be plenty of spots on Varsity available this fall.
With the next two days off for school, all players will report back Thursday afternoon for the first team practice. A small group of returning players will head to Vauxhall tomorrow to take on the Jets in the annual Spirit Day exhibition game. This weekend PBA will be split evenly into two teams, one team will take on the Jets, and the other will take on the St. FX Academy out of Edmonton. Games will be hosted at Lloyd Nolan Yard and Spitz Stadium. Stay tuned to our social media for start times.
Coach Hubka has set up a very busy fall schedule this year, including a series against perennial American junior college powerhouse: College of Southern Idaho. For the first time ever, CSI will be traveling up here to play us in a weekend series October 12/13th, you will certainly not want to miss that!
You can view the entire fall schedule below. All parents and family members are encouraged to come out and watch some great fall baseball!
