PBA Thumps VIBI 16-1 to Start the CCBC Tournament 3-0

05/13/2016 9:36 PM -

Two days into the CCBC Tournament the PBA boys are putting up some truly impressive numbers. After taking both games yesterday by a combined score of 30-7 the team took care of VIBI this evening 16-1. It was another absolute team effort from top to bottom as the boys torched the VIBI pitching staff for 18 hits. If the team can continue playing like this over the weekend it is going to be extremely difficult to deny them a 6th straight championship. Coach Hubka’s boys will take on Okanagan College tomorrow at 4:00pm in a game that will decide first place in the round robin, and the winner will head directly to the championship game on Sunday.

First year lefty Rhett Feser took the bump for the Dawgs tonight and was very good over 7 innings of work. Feser allowed only 6 VIBI hits and struck out 9 in the contest. Feser battled his way out of a couple jams early in the game where a clutch hit could have changed the momentum in the Mariners favour. Logan McDonald and Justin Logan threw the last two innings to lock down the blowout. As has been the case all tournament the defense was exceptional again today. Through 27 innings of play the PBA boys have only recorded 1 error.

At the plate tonight the team added to their homerun total from yesterday by smacking two more round trippers to sit at 8 through 3 games. The team only hit 7 homeruns during CCBC conference play and with at least two more games to go this weekend the total is likely to continue to climb. There were some impressive individual stat lines from the game this evening led by Cory Scammell and Dustin Braun. Scammell was 4-6 with 6 RBI’s to bring his RBI total through 3 games to 12. Braun was 2-4 hitting his 2nd long ball of the tournament scoring 2 runs and picking up a pair of RBI’s. Braun is now hitting a whopping .700 so far in the tournament. Other notable performances included Layne Currie going 3-5 with 4 runs scored and Matt Malec was 4-6 with a homerun and 4 RBI’s.

If the team can keep up their level of play over the next two days they will have an excellent chance to take home the trophy once again. The boys will be back in action tomorrow at 4:00pm when they take on Okanagan College. At the time of writing this article OC was 2-0 in the tournament and up 1-0 over TRU after 3 innings in the night game. Win or lose tonight OC will have a chance to take the 1st place spot after the round robin tomorrow against PBA, a fact that is not lost on Coach Hubka. After the game he preached to his boys to take it one game at a time, and to continue to play the game the right way. If they can do that things should take care of themselves. Make sure to check back in tomorrow for an update on the quest for 6 straight championships.
