PRAIRIE BASEBALL ACADEMY 5 - THOMPSON RIVERS UNIVERSITY 1

Save: Major, Mack

Spitz Stadium would feature yet another chapter in the Prairie Baseball Academy/Thompson Rivers University rivalry on Sunday night. The Dawgs came into the 7:00 PM contest with two wins under their belt on the day already, while TRU awaited their opponent all day as they earned the automatic spot in the final after round robin play. The Dawgs came from behind to win the tiebreaker game with Okanagan College, and would then defeat the VIBI Mariners in the semi-final, setting the stage for a rematch of Saturday night's thriller.

An all-around team effort guided the Dawgs to their 4th straight title; the defense played a mostly clean game behind outstanding pitching, while the offense was patient and put together 5 runs on 6 hits and 5 TRU errors. The final score would be 5-1 for the Dawgs as Ben Kennedy (5 1/3 IP, 6 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 6 K) and Mac Major (3 2/3 IP, 0 H, 1 ER, 1 BB, 3 K) teamed up to dominate the Wolfpack. TRU would get their chances but could not get the knock they needed as they left runners on in six of their nine offensive frame. They would leave the bases loaded in two seperate innings, and 12 were left on base in total. Their only run would come in the 8th inning, an inning which they didnt record a hit.

The Dawgs offense would score 2 runs in the 3rd, helped along by a couple TRU errors. The score would remain 2-0 all the way until the 8th when the teams would share single runs. The Dawgs would put the game on ice in the 9th as they plated two more runs in a wild inning which would see TRU's manager Ray Chadwik, pitcher Erik Herbranson and four additional players get ejected from the game over a disputed call that awarded a Dawgs runner 2nd base on a throwing error. With the game at 5-1 headed to the 9th, Mack Major would work around an error and a hit batter to make the final three outs of the game before the Wolfpack could generate anything further.

The Dawgs finish the 2014 Spring season with a record of 20-29; a tough 0-17 pre-season tour, 15-10 in the CCBC regular season, and 5-2 in the 2014 Championship tournament. The Dawgs say goodbye to a number of sophomore players this season. The sophomores graduating from the program are LHP Austin Cooper, RHP Sean Harvie, RHP Dylan Johnson, RHP Mack Major, RHP Justin Pilgrim, RHP Chris Stodolka, LHP Myles Vincent, C Trevor Sakatch, 2B/3B Brady Porter, OF Torey Scott, and OF Taylor Wolstenholme.
