PBA got off to the start they wanted yesterday at the 2017 CCBC Championships in Kelowna, BC. The Varsity boys picked up 2 wins on the day, an 11-0 win over UofC in the morning, and a 12-2 victory over VIBI in the afternoon. 

Tanner Jesson-Dalton and Jacob Melville combined to shutout the Dinos on Wednesday morning. Dalton started on the mound and went 6 strong innings, while Melville threw a scoreless 7^th inning to lock down the opening game of the tournament. Coach Hubka was able to get Dalton out after only 85 pitches, so he can be used again in the tournament, which is always a key come the weekend.

The PBA offense banged out 9 hits and took advantage of 5 UofC errors in the opening game. Austin Schibler picked up the first homerun of the tournament with a 2 run blast in the 6^th inning. Schibler finished 2-4 with 3 RBI’s. Third baseman Dylan Borman was 1-3 with 2 runs and 2 RBI’s, David Leblanc, and Brett Semeniuk both picked up a pair of hits in the game.

In the second game of the day it was more of the same from PBA. The team took down VIBI 12-2 to start the tournament 2-0. Greg Hollman was dominant on the mound in 7 innings of work. Hollman struck out 11 Mariner batters, while surrendering only 2 hits. The big man threw 100 pitches, 68 for strikes, before handing the ball off to Liam Sabiston in the 8^th inning.  

On the other side of the ball in game 2 the lineup was efficient from top to bottom. Every starter recorded a hit and 7 of the 9 recorded at least 2 hits in a 19 hit effort. Austin Schibler continued his great start to the tournament hitting another homerun, this one a 3 run shot to open the scoring in the 2^nd inning. Carter Witbeck and Tyson Abbott, the two catchers on the team combined to go 5-9 with 4 runs scored, a triple, a homerun each, 6 RBI’s.  

The team will need plenty of the same as the weekend continues. Thursday will surely be a fun day as PBA takes on longtime rival TRU at 12:30pm.  Rhett Feser will take the ball as PBA looks to move to 3-0 in the tournament.
