PBA Wraps Up 1st Weekend of Fall!

The Prairie Baseball Academy kicked off their fall season this past weekend with a pair of doubleheaders against the Vauxhall Jets and the St. Fx Academy out of Edmonton. PBA went 5-2 in 7 games played Saturday and Sunday. The coaching staff split the group into two teams which allowed them a chance to see everyone in game action. Moving forward into the fall the coaching staff has decided to adjust the schedule in 2018 so all new players have a chance to get more live in game action to showcase their talents.

As has always been the case in this programs 24 year history, PBA jumped straight into fall action this past weekend. With the unpredictable Southern Alberta weather, fall PBA teams have a two month window to practice and compete outside. PBA hosted the Vauxhall Jets and the St. FX Academy at both Lloyd Nolan Yard and Spitz Stadium over the weekend. Both programs are top high school academies in Alberta, and have sent multiple players to PBA following their high school careers. Saturday saw the unrelenting Lethbridge wind, but Sunday was as nice a day for baseball as anyone could have asked for. The coaching staff saw all 50+ players compete this weekend, and there were plenty of positives to take away. As always, there is plenty to improve upon, but for the first weekend of the year Coach Hubka was pleased and looking forward to what is still to come.

In years past, PBA has traveled, or hosted more teams over the course of the fall. This year however the staff has decided to mix it up slightly. Starting Friday the players will be drafted by Coach MacDonald, Coach Sawyer and Coach Wheatley onto three separate teams. These teams will intersquad against each other, culminating in a championship game right before the Thanksgiving break. Each team is scheduled to play 10 intersquad games over the course of the next three and a half weeks and the top two teams will play off in a championship game. Following the Thanksgiving break, the roles will be reversed and the second and third year varsity players will be the captains drafting their own teams for the PBA Fall World Series. A tradition as old as the program, the coaches sit back and let the players make all the decisions and play for pride amongst the program. The FWS is always some of the most intense, exciting baseball played throughout the year and we hope this year will be no different.
