LETHBRIDGE, AB - On Tuesday, May 14th, the Prairie Baseball Academy will be hosting the 3rd Annual Keith Jorgensen Memorial Scholarship Golf Tournament at the Paradise Canyon Golf Club. The Golf Tournament is an event to raise scholarship funds for our players attending the University of Lethbridge and Lethbridge College and has funded over $75,000 a year in scholarships. The name of the tournament is in honour of Keith Jorgensen, who was instrumental in the creation of both the PBA program and the annual golf tournament.
Beverly Jorgensen, wife of Keith Jorgensen presented a statement on behalf of her family in regards to what the PBA Golf Tournament means to her and her family:
"The Prairie Baseball Academy seemed like the perfect avenue for Keith. He loved children, teaching, baseball, golf, and being involved in the community. The Academy provided him the opportunity to do all of the above.
Keith was one of the founding members of PBA and as the program grew and young men came from all across Canada to hone their baseball skills and had a desire to gain an education in their chosen careers, Keith envisioned a scholarship program that would encourage and help them to achieve both goals.
And so the PBA Caddie Classic was formed. His goal was to bring together a community of like-minded golfers, to introduce them to PBA baseball players and have fun and rewarding day of golf. To Keith's delight, the the first PBA Golf Tournament was a great success which resulted in a successful scholarship program too.
As a family we feel a deeo sense of pride that Keith would be honoured in such a kind way. We know he would be pleased to have his name attached to this very special event. Thank you for your continued support of our PBA Program and have a wonderful day on the golf course.
Beverly Jorgensen and Family,
Two key members of PBA also spoke about what the PBA Golf Tournament means to them.
Glen Secretan, PBA Society Chairman
"The Keith Jorgensen Memorial Golf Tournament is an event to honour Keith Jorgensen and all he did for the Prairie Baseball Academy. He was one of the founding members of PBA and started the Golf Tournament to help the PBA Scholarship Fund, so players would be rewarded for their academic achievements. This tournament is one of the first major golf events in the city, so people mark this down on their calendars every year, just because of the history behind it and the great competition. It also supports a great cause, so that helps a ton as well. We have many businesses who sponsor this event and have many golfers who return every year to play in this event."
Rob Greeno, Former PBA Athlete
"When I was a player, I was very appreciative of of the scholarships I received as they helped me a ton as I was not only an athlete, but a student as well. These scholarships are based on how PBA athletes do academically, so it shows PBA cares about not only how the athletes do on the field, but of as well. I do quite a bit for this tournament every year, as I want to give back to PBA as much as I possibly can. I also do it for Keith Jorgensen, the man who gave me an opportunity to play college baseball, and who also was the one responsible for creating the scholarship fund."
PBA is still seeking more golfers for this great event, so if you are interested in participating, please fill out the registration form and return it to the Spitz Stadium Office located at 2425 Parkside Drive South, Lethbridge, Alberta.
