2020 PBA Opening Day

As August rolls around players and coaches are once again looking forward to opening day at Prairie Baseball Academy. Coaches Todd Hubka, Ryan Macdonald, and Chance Wheatley are eager to return and do their part in making players better every day. Although everybody is very excited to get back to playing ball, the main focus from PBA is the health of all those associated with the program.  Prairie Baseball has taken measures to adapt to the world during this pandemic. Players will be provided with masks for use when social distancing is not possible. Spectators are encouraged to wear masks and social distancing measures will be practiced throughout the day as 50-60 players are expected to be in attendance along with parents. To limit transmission of bacteria players will be using a new technology developed by Game Shield, disinfectant rosin bags for players to use on their hands and baseballs.

One positive to take out of the situation is that Lloyd Nolan Yard has been free of players for the past 5 months and is in as good of shape as ever. The break has allowed the coaching staff to get the new scoreboard set up as well as giving the fence and foul poles a flashy new paint job. The spring seasons cancellation has also opened the door for more varsity players to return than normally would. Returning players include Ross St. Jean, Mark Chappelle, Jaydon Gartner, Michael Schwab, Zach Goruk Cooper Finch, Brad Goodwin, Jordan Calibaba, Matthew Khole, Brett Porter, Cam Thickson, Jake Anderson, and Kyle Poapst. Along with the new recruits that PBA is excited to welcome, the program was able to nab two transfer students looking to make an impact. Former Midget AAA Player of the Year Ben Prediger (Calgary, Alta.) comes to us after a season catching for NECC in Nebraska. Transferring from Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) is hard-throwing RHP Evan Elliot (Toronto, Ont.).
